There are three gradations of badger hair-pure, best and super/silvertip. Badger bristles have the highest water retention capacity and smoothest sensation on the face in addition to durability. Merkur extends a 10 year warranty on this brush. The primary benefit of using a shaving brush is that it softens and lifts the facial hair before a shave. Applying shaving cream by hand mats the hair or raises it unevenly. With a shave brush, the circular motion used to form a lather works perfectly for a close shave without the need for the razor to be pressed to the skin in order to achieve a close shave!
